Hebrides 2019 - Days 5 & 6
Day 5
We're staying at this camp site for a few days, so do some sightseeing.
First stop is a Norse mill and kiln in Shawbost. I like it when you're just free to roam about a site like this. There was no guide but there were plaques here and there explaining the site. Best of all it's free.

After the Norse site, I go for a ride just to have a look round the island.
Day 6
More exploring. The beaches are absolutely beautiful, but even though it's June, it's still 10C and windy.
This place is very interesting. It's a modern renovation of an iron age house. The stonework was excavated almost intact so all that really needed to be done was to put a roof on it to have a look into how people lived in the past.
The house is very well camouflaged and this was not done accidentally. It was done like this to make it difficult to spot from the sea. The excavations found the foundation for several houses, but this was the most well preserved. For a small fee (I think it was £3) there is a guide that will take you inside and explain what life must have been like for the occupants. Well worth a visit.

A little more riding around and looking at things. I find a few standing stones.
And a stone circle.
This is the second Callanish stone circle. The other more famous one was packed with tourists (unsurprisingly). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Callanish_II
